- Buy the Top-Level domains that you want to allow people to register with. Learn more here.
- Once you own your domains make sure that you have purchased “Royalties” for the domains. If you did not purchase “Royalties” when you bought your domains don't worry. You can add them. Just login to your account on Freename. Roll over the person icon and select “TLD List”. then click on one of the domains and click “Manage”. On the left side you will see “Royalties”. Click on that and it will allow you to add royalties to this domain. By purchasing “Royalties” you will then receive 50% royalties on all domain purchases using your domains. One of the best parts is that Freename handles all of the processing of the domains that are purchased.
- The next step in the process is adding a crypto wallet to your account in Freename. They have instructions on doing this. You need to have a wallet in your account.
- After you have a wallet you can “mint” your domains. This lists your domain on the blockchain. To do this you navigate to “TLD List” and just hit the “Mint” button for the domain you want to setup. There are several options for which blockchain you want to mint it on. We suggest Polygon.
- Then you should turn on your reseller page for the domain. Go back to “TLD List” and click on “Manage” for each domain. Click on “Resell Page”. Here you can turn on your reseller page and add a custom icon. Save the changes.
Congratulations! You are now a Web3 domain registrar!
Now you just need to promote your domain! You can link directly to your resell page to make it easy for people!

Key characteristics:
- Decentralized ownership: No reliance on a central registrar or authority for management.
- One-time purchase: Usually purchased with a one-time fee, unlike traditional domains with recurring renewal costs.
- Multiple use cases:Representing cryptocurrency wallet addresses for simplified transactions.
- Hosting decentralized websites and apps (dApps).
- Creating a universal online identity across Web3 platforms.
- Common extensions: .crypto, .eth, .x, .nft, and others, depending on the registrar.
Benefits:
- Enhanced security: Stored on a secure blockchain, making them resistant to censorship and takedowns.
- User-friendly crypto transactions: Replace lengthy wallet addresses with memorable domain names.
- Unified Web3 experience: Streamline interactions across various Web3 applications.
